You did a beautiful job capturing this outstanding project and sculpture by Dennis Downes. The photography highlights the sculpture’s details, including the depth and essence of George Streeter as a man. Proud and substantive are qualities displayed in these images. I recently attended the SOAR sponsored theatre production telling the story of George Streeter. Although well done, the one inaccurate characterization in the play regarded his grooming and dress. “Cap” Streeter most likely took considerably pride in his appearance, as shown in the sculpture. The play did not depict a man who took this amount of care. Thank you for sharing these fantastic images.

Love the statue! We need more historical statues throughout the neighborhood. Thank you to the Golub Company for having the Cap Streeter statue commissioned. This statue of Cap creates depth to the neighborhood and a great sense of history. We will forever keep the story of the beginning of Streeterville alive by having this statue of Cap Streeter!
If Streeterville is a neighborhood filled with energy, dynamism and interesting characters, then its of course imperative to be reminded of the original “founder”, Cap Streeter, with plays and sculptures.

I have read extensively about Cap Streeter and his life. He was truly a multi-faceted character. The plaque at the base of the statue describes him as “eccentric,” and this is certainly correct. Look at the third picture. Streeter is walking forward with purpose, as if he is striding into the future. This is appropriate; Streeter often talked of the future of Streeterville as he envisioned it. But Streeter also looks a bit weary, as if the years of court battles have taken their toll on him. Mr. Downes has truly captured the soul of Cap Streeter in this statue.
