Landscape Architect: Christopher M. Gent

Monday, May 20, 2013: I met with landscape Architect Christopher M. Gent

Member of Illinois Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects [IL-ASLA]

His firm Chris Gent Landscape Studio  creates sustainable community driven public spaces.
It won the 2012 Honor Award, by IL-ASLA,  for landscaping of a yard by a private owner.

Here is a slight diversion from my posts on sculptors of Chicago. Chris is a Landscape Architect. I have know Chris for a few years now.  I met him when I was documenting the installation of the “Runners” at the O’Hare International Airport, in 2011. He was coordinating between several city agencies, engineers, fundraisers and the artist. He came across as a wonderful and a very accomplished person, who has been involved with several projects in the city, which includes some of my favorites,  like the installation of Agora [by Magdalena Abakanowicz in Grant Park] and construction of the Mary Bartelme Park  [images below].  Some of the other projects he has been involved with includes Pritzker  Park [State Street],  Tiffany Celebration Garden [Grant Park], relocation of  Lake Shore Drive [Museum Campus], Lakefront Bike Path, Osaka Japanese Garden and Chicago Summerdance pavilion among many others.

The landscaped yard of his home-studio.
It is late spring and aquatic plants are yet to bloom. In summer, this place will be full of flowers, and probably will a better time for photography too. Hopefully another trip in summer is due.

It is a community garden with community participation in every step of the way from planning to execution and maintenance.

Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park

After seeing the Senn Park Unity Garden, we went to the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park. It is so huge, we walked only through one portion of the park. I need to go there again, and devote one full day there. They have a wonderful website, click here..
