2013: An interesting trend.. This year, figure sculptures seem to be dominating the Chicago Temporary exhibits scene.. I see figure sculptures .. at all prominent places, Pioneer Court, Millennium Park, Grant Park [Solti Garden], S. Michigan Avenue, MCA Plaza, Willis Tower.. And it makes me very happy, because I have a special interest in figure sculptures. I connect with them instantaneously. I like observing all kinds of figure sculptures, heroic, allegorical, weird, grotesque, cutesy, abstracted human forms.. It gives me some kind of kick to wonder how an artist brain is interpreting human forms. And this year, I see them everywhere. Even in the 2013 EXPO Chicago; one of the most photographed pieces was “Bridge” by Glenn Kaino, which was a series of arms banded together to form the bridge.
Maybe, just maybe “The Bean” by Anish Kapoor is so popular because one can see the most important human form, themselves, into it! Talking about myself, I have taken plenty of self-portraits at the Bean.. click here..
