The Gateway” — an experiment in placemaking by Chicago Loop Alliance, supported by 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly and Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein — will officially open this Friday, June 7.
Presented as a “people plaza” — the designation given by the City of Chicago to public plaza activations under its new Make Way for People program — the Gateway is the first such project in the Loop. “People spots,” which are also part of the program sponsored by the Department of Transportation, have popped up in other neighborhoods throughout the city in the form of reclaimed parking spaces.
The Gateway is presented by The Chicago Loop Alliance Foundation, as part of City of Chicago’s Make Way for People program.
