Carmel is located immediately north of Indianapolis. It has been one of the fastest-growing communities in the country. In 2012, Carmel was selected the Best Place to Live in United States by CNN Money magazine. Carmel Arts & Design District is designed to promote small businesses and local artisans. It boasts of a collection of art galleries, boutiques, interior designers, cafes and restaurants. Lifelike sculptures by John Seward Johnson II ornament the streets of Carmel Arts & Design District. The sculptures, all part of the “Man-on-the-Street” series by J. Seward Johnson Jr.,  which began in the 1980s and continues as Johnson creates new ways to express his subjects.
