Blue Man Group Unveils New Outdoor Art Gallery

The Blue Man Group unveils a new Art Gallery, with six winning artworks.

Location: Briar Street Theater [3133 N. Halsted]

On September 20, the Blue Man Group, unveiled a new art gallery, and the very FIRST art gallery by the Blue Man group. It is a result of 2013 Blue Man Group Art Competition. Six winning artworks were selected. The original art works are on display in the lobby of the Briar Street Theater. In addition, each artwork has been reproduced into 10’ x 10’ panels, which are displayed outdoors on the south exterior wall side of the Briar Street Theater .

The winning artists include: Kathy Czopek, Bridgeton, MO; Kuzana Ogg, Bakersfield, CA; Dan Olvera, Schaumburg, IL; Audrius Plioplys, Chicago, IL; Cody Rounds, Mahwah, NJ; and Candace Wark and Shirley Nannini working collectively as Wind Flow Photography, Chicago, IL.

The outdoor art gallery is part of EXPO ART WEEK (September 16-22), the weeklong celebration of art and culture surrounding EXPO CHICAGO, the International Exposition of Modern and Contemporary Art (September 19-22). Winners had 10’ x 10’ reproductions of their artwork, featured in a semi-permanent outdoor art gallery on the south exterior wall of the Briar Street Theatre in Lakeview. In addition, winners received a $5,000 cash prize.

The juried Art Competition included a judge’s panel comprising Alison Cuddy, Arts and Culture Reporter, Chicago Public Radio (WBEZ); Tom Galassi, Blue Man Group Chicago Captain; Carolina Jayaram, Executive Director, Chicago Artists Coalition; Stacey Lemp, Hawthorne Scholastic Academy art teacher; Jeff Quay, Associate Director, Blue Man Group Chicago; and Chris Wink, one of the Blue Man Group founders.
