in honor of Special Olympics athletes past, present and future around the world.

The monument was dedicated on the 50th Anniversary of Special Olympics 1968-2018.

Location: Soldier Field

One July 20, 1968, the First Special Olympics Games were held in Soldier Field.

The Special Olympics Monument was dedicated on its 50th anniversary on July 20, 2018.

One July 20, 1968, the First Special Olympics Games were held in Soldier Field and were made possible by innovators, pioneers and concerned, forward thinkers individuals of goodwill, including Anne McGlone Burke, Dr. William Freedberg of Southern Illinois University, Dr. Frank Hayden, William McFtridge and Dan Shannon of Chicago Park District, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, whose work made Special Olympics a global movement to create inclusion in every corner of the world.
