About Batflower
How often do we see a “black” flower? How often do we see a flower with whiskers?
Here is a black flower with whiskers!
Bat flower [Tacca chantieri] is an exotic plant with flowers that mimic a bat in flight. It has black flowers, or maybe deep purple. These flowers are are up to 12 inches across, and have long ‘whiskers’ that can grow up to 28 inches. Tacca chantrierei is native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, and southern China. They are understory plants, so they prefer shade.
