Walton Island Park in Elgin, Illinois.
Walton Island, located just south of the Elgin Dam on the Fox River in downtown Elgin.
It’s across the street from the library, right next to the Hemmens and off the Fox River Trail .
It was created in the WPA program of the 1930’s. It was dedicated to the City by the Izaak Walton League.
It covers 4.5-acre area, and is split into two small Islands.
There are two wide bridges to access the park, and one bridge between the two small islands..
One of the islands has the American flag and an excellent gazebo, a popular spot to hold a wedding ceremony.
The other island has a beautiful pond, arbor, trellis walkway, and landscaped steps.
There are nice paved walking paths and well-maintained landscaping. There are plenty of benches & seating options,
fishing opportunities and a pavilion shelter for special events.
Nearby are the Veterans Memorial Park, Gail Borden Public Library, The Center of Elgin,
Pioneer Memorial sculpture by Trygve A. Rovelstad, Hemmens Cultural Center, Foundry Park and Fountain.

American Flag – by Dave Powers
The flag is 10-by-18-foot flag. It is made of four detachable aluminum panels mounted onto a steel frame and pole. The entire sculpture weighs 7,000 pounds. The flag, which cost about $120,000, will be unveiled during a dedication ceremony, Flag Day, at the north end of Walton Island.
Before this metal flag, there was a concrete sculpture of American Flag designed by Trygve Rovelstad. It was on the Walton Island from the 1930s to 1960s. Through time, this sculpture deteriorated and was removed. However, it served as the inspiration for the current monumental steel sculpture of the American flag by David Powers.
