Wendell Castle is an American furniture artist. He is often credited with being the father of the Art Furniture Movement, which is an offshoot of American Studio Craft Movement.

The Studio Craft Movement developed after the Second World War. There was widespread mechanization in the post war period. Few American designers rejected mass-production and began creating works that foregrounded historic craft methods. A major root of this rejection was the previous generation of European avant-gardes who came to the US before and after the second World War.

Wendell Castle’s style is ‘biomorphic. The shapes are inspired by mother nature. here is no straight line s in nature. Just free forms. The structural designs disappear into wilderness.
