A Two Faced Guy – by Alexander Calder

1969 / Painted Steel

Location: Frederik Meijer Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

My day trip: September 21, 2011.

The 7-foot tall piece is built of sheet metal and painted red and black. It was constructed in 1969, the same year Calder created “La Grand Vitesse” for the city of Grand Rapids click here.., which became the first piece of public sculpture funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. But this is quite different. This is one of his large pieces that’s actually figurativ and the profile of one face from one side is black and from the other side is red!
